Out of nowhere, Tesla has shocked the automotive world yet again. Today was supposed to be the unveiling of their much awaited electric truck. But, along with the truck, there was the second generation Tesla Roadster as well. Faster than ever before, the new Tesla Roadster claims to do a 0-100 kmph run in under 2 seconds. This means it is faster to reach 100 kmph than any other production car in the world today. Yes, faster than the Chiron, the Agera, or any other car.
To rub salt on the wounds of conventional car makers, Mr Musk says that after you have driven the new Roadster, driving a regular car would relate to driving a steam engine today. Ouch.
As if this was not enough, the future ready electric sports car will have a driving range of 1,000 kms on a single charge. In the words of Elon Musk, the Tesla Roadster is “a hardcore smackdown to gasoline cars”. I am not sure if anyone will want to argue with him on that, especially after seeing those insane specs.
Speaking more about its numbers, Mr Musk said that the new Tesla Roadster will be able to do 0-160 kmph in just 4.2 seconds and will have a top speed of over 402 kmph. That’s insanely fast for an all electric sportscar. Powered by a 200-kWh battery pack, it will do a quarter mile (400 meters) run in 8.9 seconds.
Bookings have opened. Prices of the base variant starts from $200,000 while the exclusive Roadster Founders Series will cost you $250,000. If you want to book, down payment is $50,000.
