A recent British media report says that, according to BBC insiders, popular auto journalist Chris Harris and German racing driver Sabine Schmitz would be joining Chris Evans as the new Top Gear presenters. The report also speculates that former F1 driver David Coulthard could also be a part of the crew.
While many believe that the most watched automotive TV show on earth would never be the same without the original trio of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, BBC seems to have put together a new team comprising people that are widely acclaimed.
Chris Evans is a popular British Radio Jockey who is admired by auto enthusiasts for his eclectic collection of Ferraris. Chris Harris is arguably up there with the original trio when it comes to wit, natural eloquence, driving skills and fan following.
Sabine Schmitz, nicknamed the Queen of Nurburgring, is a seasoned German racing driver who raced for BMW and Porsche. She is known for her role as the driver of BMW M4 Ring Taxi. In a 2004 TG episode, she almost matched Jeremy’s Nurburgring laptime on board a diesel Jaguar sedan while driving a Ford Transit diesel van! (Watch the videos).
Meanwhile, Jeremy, Richard and James have already commenced filming for the first episode of their new car show for the Amazon Prime channel. The first episode would be aired in next fall.
