Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially unveiled its first electric SUV for the Indian market called Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking a key milestone in the brand’s long-term EV strategy. This development follows Toyota’s earlier teaser campaign and signals the brand’s entry into the mass-market electric SUV space in India.

Design inspired by Urban BEV Concept

The Ebella electric SUV closely aligns with the Urban BEV Concept showcased earlier, featuring a modern and rugged design language. The model gets sleek LED headlamps with full-width LED DRLs at the front and rear, a muscular bonnet, squared-off wheel arches and strong body cladding.

Aerodynamic elements integrated into the bumper and a neatly finished rear section with slim LED tail-lamps highlight its EV-focused design approach. Overall proportions suggest a compact-to-mid-size SUV with a strong road presence, positioning it as a premium offering in Toyota’s India lineup.

Shares Platform / Battery With Maruti Suzuki eVitara

The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV is closely related to the Maruti Suzuki eVitara, continuing Toyota and Maruti Suzuki’s product-sharing strategy. The electric SUV will be manufactured in India at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat facility and will serve both domestic and export markets, reinforcing India’s role as a global EV production hub for the alliance.

Interior and features

Inside, the Toyota electric SUV mirrors the layout of the eVitara, featuring a modern cabin with a floating centre console, a two-spoke steering wheel and dual digital screens for infotainment and instrumentation. Toyota is offering a comprehensive safety package, including ADAS, along with multiple active and passive safety systems to meet global standards.

Powertrain specifications are identical to the eVitara. Buyers will get a choice of 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery packs, offering claimed range of up to 543 kms. These options will allow Toyota to target both urban and long-distance EV buyers.

India launch timeline

With the unveiling now complete, Toyota is expected to share more details in the coming weeks. The Urban Cruiser Ebella EV is likely to be launched in India soon, becoming Toyota’s first mass-market electric SUV for the country. Bookings are now open at Rs 25,000.

Once launched, the Urban Cruiser Ebella EV will compete in the fast-growing electric SUV segment and strengthen Toyota’s EV portfolio in India, complementing its hybrid-led strategy while leveraging its partnership with Maruti Suzuki.
