A silhouette of what appears to be the new Toyota Innova has been teased at the company’s dedicated Auto Expo website, indicating that the latest iteration of the popular family MPV would be showcased at the event. Toyota Kirloskar Motor is running a contest for the existing customers under “The Heritage Of Innova” banner.
Launched in Indonesia last year, the new Innova emerges as a vastly improved product with a new exterior design and an all-new interior. The family MPV clearly aims to move up the market in terms of positioning and price.
Based on the second gen IMV platform which also caters to the new Fortuner and Hilux pickup, the new Innova gets 2.4-litre GD diesel engine mated either to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. With 147 bhp and 380 Nm of torque on tap, the performance gain over the existing 2.6-litre model would be significant.
The next gen people carrier is more luxurious and feature rich. Expect TKM to offer its best selling model with standard dual airbags and ABS with EBD.
The new Toyota Innova is expected to go on sale in India sometime later this year. With an estimated on-road price of over INR 20 lakhs for the fully loaded variant, there is no direct competition this time around.
