Launched in Indonesia at the end of November, the 2016 Toyota Innova has seen overwhelming demand with bookings to the tune of 6,000 units in a little over two weeks. PT Toyota Astra Motor has stated that among these bookings it was noted that Toyota Innova diesel was more in demand with 55% buyers opting for this variant.
Prior to 2016 Toyota Innova being introduced in Indonesia, it was the petrol version of its earlier counterpart that was preferred. However, post introduction of 2016 Toyota Innova, buyers are opting for the diesel variant primarily due to the fact that the new GD engine is slated to offer better refinement and power as compared to the KD engine.
Priced from IDR 282 million, approximately INR 13.59 lakh, waiting period has been extended to three months. The most in demand exterior colour option are the white and black.
2016 Toyota Innova is built on Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. It is offered in 3 trims and 12 variants that include V, G and Q and in both petrol and diesel engine offerings. These include a 2.0 liter VVT-I engine capable of 137bhp and 183Nm torque and 2.4 liter GD diesel engine offering 147bhp at 3,400rpm and 359Nm torque at 1,200 to 2,800rpm. Both engines are mated to either 5 speed manual or 6 speed automatic while they are also seen with VNT – Variable Nozzle Turbo technology on board.
Heading to 2016 Auto Expo in India in February, the new Toyota Innova will launch in India soon after, where it is estimated to be priced between INR 10-17 lakh. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of Renault Lodgy, Mahindra Xylo, Honda Mobilio, and Maruti Ertiga.
