New TVS Apache 160 launch in March 2018 – Spied again

Despite seeing no significant changes after that infamous facelift, the old Apaches (160 and 180) have been doing pretty well in the market. But now, with the launch of new age bikes in the segment in the form of Bajaj Pulsar NS 160, Suzuki Gixxer, Honda Hornet, Yamaha FZ-S FI V 2.0, etc – its high time that TVS updated their Apache 160 and the 180.

Rumours about TVS working on launching the new generation Apache 160 and 180 have been doing rounds for quite some time. But TVS never confirmed them officially. But from the last couple of weeks, the new generation Apache 160 has been spied on test on test on multiple occasions. The bike has been spied again.

From the images it is clear that the new gen 2018 Apache RTR 160 styling is inspired by the big brother Apache 200. The naked entry level sports motorcycle from TVS gets new handle bar, mono shock suspension, rear LED tail light, silver panel on the side, front disc brake, rear drum brake, no split seat, skinnier tyres, electric / kick start, exhaust unit and instrument console same as Apache 200.

Powered by an air-cooled single cylinder 4-valve BS4 engine, expect the new 160 Apache to deliver more power and torque as compared to the existing 160. The way the bike was accelerating, the engine seemed more responsive as well. Exhaust note was very much like that of the Apache 200, with a little less bass. Current Apache 160 delivers 15.2 hp @ 8,500 rpm and 13.1 Nm torque at 4,000 rpm. Transmission is via a 5 speed gearbox.

The arrival of this new gen Apache 160 is expected to further boost the brand’s market share in the entry level sportsbike segment. Expect price to remain more or less same as existing Apache 160 at about INR 80,000.
