Competing with the likes of the Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 and BMW X1, the new Volvo XC40 compact premium SUV has been launched in India.
2018 Volvo XC40 is positioned below the new Volvo XC60, which was launched in India last year. Unlike XC60 and XC90 which are based on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture platform, the new XC40 is positioned on the company’s Compact Modular Architecture platform.
As of today, the XC40 is only offered in a single variant, R-Design. This one is priced at Rs 39.90 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Now, as per a Team-BHP member, the company is all set to launch two more variants – entry level Momentum variant and top of the line Inscription variant. Both these variants will be launched as early as next month. Some Volvo India dealers have already started taking bookings.
Price of the entry level variant of XC40 is expected to start from Rs 36 lakhs while the top of the line variant will be priced from Rs 45 lakhs.
Speaking about the XC40, the five seater Volvo borrows design elements from XC60 and XC90. It gets a new grille and structure profile and will be offered in a choice of 17 color combinations for both body and roofline.
Interiors see a host of comfort, infotainment and safety features among which is a 12.3” TFT instrument panel and a 9.0” infotainment system positioned in the center of the dashboard. A 3 spoke multi-function steering wheel, comfortable seating and plenty of storage spaces are seen in its interiors.
Safety and driver assistance features such as pilot assistance system, city safety, run off road protection, cross traffic alert, brake support and a 360 degree camera offering easy maneuver into parking spaces make the new Volvo XC40 one of the best equipped small SUVs.
Powering the new Volvo XC40 in India is a 2.0 liter diesel engine. This is the only option on offer for now. It delivers 190 hp and 400 Nm. Petrol engine will be launched at a later stage if there is demand.
