New VW Tiguan SUV India launch price INR 27.68 lakh
One of the most exciting launches from VW India, the Tiguan has been launched in India today.
VW India has launched the new Tiguan SUV today. Priced from INR 27.68 lakh, ex-showroom, the car has already entered production at the company plant in Aurangabad.
First showcased to Indian audience at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier last year, the name Tiguan is inspired from Ti (tiger) as its agile and muscular and guan (Iguana) as its adaptable and can go anywhere and be at home.
The front facsia would comply with the brand’s latest design theme with narrow chrome grille which seamlessly integrates itself into slender headlamps. In profile, the new SUV gets a clean sheet metal design with a fine waistline, chrome rub strips, blacked out B-pillar and a tapering C-pillar. The rear fascia sports a well proportioned windshield, two-part angular combination lights that extend from rear fenders all the way up to tailgate, a thin chrome strip on the bumper and a black diffuser with twin circular tailpipes.

One of the many interesting features on offer is the electronically controlled boot opening and closing. You can either open the tailgate by swiping your foot under the boot or by pressing a button on the remote key. The tailgate can also be closed using the key. The boot is also height adjustable, just like new Ford Endeavour.
To be only offered as a 5 seater in India, the rear seats split in 40:20:40 format. On the back of front seats, there is a foldable table, with glass holder. The rear seats are can also slide backwards and forwards, adding to the comfort of rear seat passengers.
Music, AVN is via state of the art 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. The car has 8 speakers to give top-notch music experience. It also gets front and rear parking sensor with camera display. Panaromic sunroof is also on offer, but can only be opened half, as rear part of the sunroof is fixed. A total of five colour options will be on offer.
As always, safety will continue be one of the best in segment. New VW Tiguan will come with six airbags, ABS with ‘CHOKE’ effect, which further helps on reducing the stopping distance. Also on offer will be EBD, TCS, ESP, keyless entry, keyless start/stop. It also gets RE-ACTIVE HOOD. This feature is a pedestrian safety feature. Whenever there is a front impact with the pedestrian, the hood of the bonnet will open by of 22 mm from the hinges (near windscreen). What this does is reduces chances of the pedestrian coming into contact with the windscreen and thereby reduces chances of searious injuries to the head or back.
Engine & Transmission
Underpinned by MQB platform, new Tiguan would only be offered with a 2.0 liter diesel engine mated to a 7 speed automatic gearbox. This engine will deliver 143 PS and 330 Nm torque. It will only be offered with an all wheel drive system called 4Motion, which is always 4×4. Drive modes on offer are – Snow, Terrain, Sports, Individual.
To be offered in two trims – Comfortline and Highline, the new VW Tiguan will get airbags, ABS, EBD as standard safety features. In addition to this, it also gets LED headlights, LED DRL, LED taillights, sunroof, leather upholstery, 8 inch infotainment system, 18 inch alloys (Highline only, 17 inch alloys for Comfortline), 235/50 tyre size.
Price and Rivals
It is priced from INR 27.68 lakh. The new VW Tiguan rivals the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Endeavour, upcoming Jeep Compass and the likes on the price front. But on the feature and driving dynamics front, it will be more like a rival to the Audi Q3, Mercedes GLA and BMW X1.
