Yamaha R15 V3 launched in Vietnam at VND 110 m (INR 3.2 lakh)
Drawing subtle inspiration from Yamaha YZF-R125 and YZF-R6, next generation Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 is a completely new machine as compared to the R15 V2 on sale in India.
Yamaha YZF-R15 is a 150 cc segment motorcycle which was first launched back in 2008. It is one of the company’s more prominent models in India. The R15, a fully faired sportsbike received its facelift in 2011 when it was christened YZF-R15 V2.0. A few months back, the third generation of R15 was launched in Indonesia and Thailand. Now it has been launched in Vietnam
Manufactured in Indonesia, the first batch of R15 V3 it is retailed there at a starting price of IDR 34,500,000 (or INR 1.68 lakh). But in Vietnam, where it is imported, the price starts from a staggering VND 110,000,000 or INR 3.2 lakh. This is a lot of money for a single cylinder 155cc motorcycle, which brings us to the pertinent question – will it ever come to India?
Last year, Yamaha India had stated that the new R15 V3 will be launched in India. But as per latest reports, that is not the case. They are not sure whether to launch the bike in India or not. In an interview with Powerdrift, Mr Roy Kurian, Senior VP, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha India said, “We launch over 150 motorcycles every year around the globe. This does not mean that we have to bring all the motorcycles to India. We will follow a country-specific strategy and in India we already have the R15 and R15 S on sale in India (which has been updated to BS4 norms). We do not know if there is a requirement for R15 V3 in India.”
With Yamaha India investing in the existing range of R15 V2 and the R15 S for their upgrade to BS4 standard, it seems that the R15 V3 is not going to be launched in India. This is sad news for those who have been waiting for the R15 V3 in India. It also indicates that the rumour about R15 V3 reaching Indian dealerships was not true.
Speaking about the new Yamaha R15, its design has been inspired by its elder sibling, R6. Built to out-perform every bike in the segment, new R15 gets a huge list of new features, more powerful engine, racing heart, and much more. Read everything about the new R15, starting with its heart, the engine below.
Yamaha R15 V3 Engine
New Yamaha R15 is powered by a completely new 155.1 cc single cylinder liquid cooled 4 stroke SOHC engine. This engine is mated to a 6 speed transmission. Power output stands at 14.2 kW (20 PS) / 10000 rpm while torque output stands at 14.7 Nm / 8500 rpm. This means, compared to the R15 V2, the new R15 V3 delivers 3 PS more, and is now the most powerful bike in the segment (Suzuki GSX 150 delivers 19 PS). Fuel delivery system continues to be FI, and so is the clutch, but both have been updated thoroughly to deliver a more refined and dynamic riding experience. On top of all this, it also gets Slipper Clutch. This setup allows the top speed to cross 137 kmph.
