2016 Audi R8 diesel engine a possibility; model completely revealed
It seems an official photo of next gen Audi R8 has slipped into the internet a week before its global debut, revealing the finer details of signature front grille, auxiliary air-dams and all the more sporty bumper, to begin with. This could be the first official photo of 2016 Audi R8 to be circulated in online communities, or somebody rendered it impeccably and is not taking credit (which we think is not the case here).
Second generation Audi R8 is based on Lamborghini Huracan’s platform and will be powered by two versions of 5.3 litre V10 engines, one producing 540 hp and other 610 hp. The latter, dubbed Audi R8 V10 Plus, will be capable of sprinting from 0 – 100 kmph in 3.2 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than current R8. Top speed of the new R8 will be 330 kmph. Both engines will be mated to 7-speed S-Tronic Double Clutch Gearbox (DSG), with no choice of a manual transmission variant.
According to next gen Audi R8 technical lead, Roland Schala, new powertrains are under consideration for the 2016 model, which could be offered at a later stage. This is because of the use of new platform which is pretty versatile. Includes a V6 version sending power to rear wheels, a hardcore GT3 variant and even an Audi R8 diesel.
