Next gen Maruti Swift and Dzire would benefit from SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) Hybrid system which will debut in India shortly on board Ciaz.
With the next iterations of Maruti’s top sellers, the company is planning to breach the 30 kmpl mileage barrier. By combining weight reduction measures, new engine technologies and SHVS Hybrid system, such a high mileage figure can be achieved.
Maruti Ciaz SHVS hybrid variant has already reached dealerships in India and Ertiga SHVS Hybrid variant is reported to be ready in October. Both hybrid models will feature the familiar 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine. Maruti may introduce the technology in existing Swift and Dzire but a 30+ kmpl figure is highly unlikely for now.
The SHVS Hybrid system consists of a compact Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which provides a mild power boost to engine whenever necessary. It is supported by a regenerative braking system. The mild hybrid system is cost effective and is good enough to make a difference in a compact car.
Government’s FAME (Faster Adaption and Manufacturing of Electric and hybrid vehicles) subsidy which was announced in 2015 Budget and NEMMP 2020 (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) would make next gen Maruti Swift and Dzire hybrid variants financially attractive for prospective buyers.
