NGT has banned parking of cars on tar roads in entire NCR

The special court established to handle issues of environment recently (in November 2014) made 14 orders to control air pollution in NCR, one of which was to ban petrol and diesel vehicles that had celebrated more than 15 years of service. Now, NGT has banned parking of cars on any tar road in the region.

No Parking tow fine
NGT has instructed corporations to levy fine of Rs. 1,000 on those who violate the new rule and park their cars on roads. The fine is quoted as compensation for environmental degradation.
Swatanter Kumar, Chairman of National Green Tribunal, said that stagnation of vehicles and congestion of traffic are sure to be avoided by prohibiting parking on any metalled roads, which will result in cleaner air. NGT has directed corporation to monitor compliance of the rule in Lajpat Nagar and Karol Bagh and submit reports; which are considered pilot projects.

Delhi Police and Counsel for corporation have made requests to the bench to limit the parking ban to main roads and not include colony lanes and bylanes, with the question ‘where will residents park their cars then?’. The bench simply directed the lawyers to file a separate application on this matter.
