Nissan inaugurates $2 billion plant in Mexico to produce 1 million cars by 2016

Nissan inaugura nueva planta en AguascalientesSpeaking to media, Ghosn stated that the company will be using Mexico as their major export hub and will produce around 1 million cars in the country out of which only 300,000 units will be for local sales while the balance cars will make their way to North and South America. These cars will be produced from the company plant in Aguascalientes in Central Mexico after which they will make their way by rail to various destinations across the country.

The plant will have the capacity to produce one car every 38 seconds, while the 3,000 strong employees at the plant will be assisted by yellow colored robots. The new plant was built in 19 months and has the capacity of producing four different cars on four platforms. Engines for these cars will be sourced from the nearby first Aguascalientes plant. Nissan is also investing in its existing plant in Cuernavaca, south of Mexico City so as to allow for augmented production to meet increased demand.
