In Nissan’s lineup for Brazil, Kait will be the brand’s new entry-level compact SUV, replacing the Kicks Play

Nissan has introduced the Kait compact SUV in Brazil, which will take on rivals such as Volkswagen Tera, Hyundai Creta, Fiat Pulse, Chevrolet Tracker and Renault Kardian. Production has already commenced at Nissan’s facility in Resende, Brazil. Nissan Kait will be exported to more than 20 markets, primarily in South America. Let’s get more details on this story.

Nissan Kait SUV Debuts – Key features

While getting a sportier design, Nissan Kait is underpinned by the same V-platform in use with Nissan Kicks Play. When Nissan launched the all-new, 2nd-gen Kicks last year, the original Kicks (1st-gen) was relaunched as the Kicks Play in select markets. For the South American market, the new Kait will be positioned as the brand’s new entry-level SUV.

Nissan Kait has improved styling and stronger road presence, which can work to its advantage. One can spot features like sharper split LED headlights, dynamic LED DRLs, a prominent grille with horizontal slats, and a wide air intake at the bottom. Side profile is largely the same as the Kicks Play. However, a new set of sportier alloy wheels enhance the SUV’s overall look and feel.

Other features like body-coloured door handles, circular wheel arches, rising beltline, door trim, door and window cutouts, roof rails and ORVMs are the same as Kicks Play. The gently sloping roofline is another common feature. At the rear, Nissan Kait has a refreshed profile, featuring sharper tail lamps in connected format. Nissan has used the boot lid, the prime visual real estate at the rear, to showcase the KAIT lettering in a large font. With this change, the number plate has been shifted to the bumper.

Dimensionally, the new Nissan Kait is largely the same size as the Kicks Play. Kait is 4,304 mm long, 1,760 mm wide, 1,611 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. A total of six colour options are available with the Nissan Kait. The SUV has a boot space of 432 litres. In the company’s lineup, Kait will be positioned below the 2nd-gen Kicks and the X-Trail.

Variants, equipment list

While positioned as an entry-level SUV in South America, Nissan Kait is quite well-equipped in terms of features. Four trim levels will be on offer – Active, Sense Plus, Advance Plus and Exclusive. Key features include a 7-inch digital instrument panel, Pioneer 9-inch infotainment touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and wireless phone charger.

The powertrain for Nissan Kait is the same as that of Kicks Play. The SUV is powered by a 1.6-litre, 16-valve, naturally aspirated, flex fuel engine. Power output is 113 hp with ethanol and 110 hp with petrol. Torque output is 149 Nm and 146 Nm, respectively. The engine is paired with a CVT transmission.
