Nissan Kicks (Hyundai Creta rival) unveiled in Brazil

The highly anticipated Nissan Kicks compact crossover SUV has made its world premiere in Brazil a week before the commencement of Rio Olympics torch relay. The Kicks will be the lead vehicle for the relay and will visit around 300 destinations across the country before the grand event begins on August 5.

Based on the V-Platform (Versatile) which also underpins the Sunny (Versa in other markets) and Micra (March in other markets), the Kicks crossover is designed to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster in the global arena. For now, the SUV will be made at Nissan’s Mexican plant and imported into Brazil but the local subsidiary has already announced additional investment and recruitment drive to expand its Resende (Rio) plant for the car. Production in Brazil should commence in 2017.

The Kicks is reported to be 4.28 m long, 1.76 m wide, 1.58 m tall and has a wheelbase of 2.62 m.

Except for a few toned down bits such as headlamps and wheels, the Kicks retains the concept’s design cues faithfully, complete with the contrast roof. The interiors of the crossover¬†are yet to be revealed.

It will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.

Powering the Nissan Kicks is a 1.6-litre flex-fuel engine that also does duty under the hoods of the Brazil-spec Versa and March. A 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT constitute the powertrain lineup.

The V-Platform based crossover would eventually go on sale in India.

The Nissan V-Platform is heavily localized in India and hence it makes a lot of sense to manufacture the car here. We expect the Kicks to make it to our shores sometime towards the end of next year or early 2018.
