Aspiring racers and gamers behind wide screens are currently competing in the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy rounds in India to win a coveted driver discovery and development programme seat. Hugely popular and successful in Europe, Russia, USA, Middle East and South Africa, Nissan has now brought this delightful opportunity to Indian gamers. The sixth edition of GT Academy marked its debut in India on February 6 at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.
The “Virtual to Reality” programme tests racing acumen of gaming fans through a time-trial competition on PlayStation GT6 racing simulators. Shopping malls in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai are hosting qualifying rounds. An online qualifying round will also be hosted on the PlayStation Network(PSN).
Registered entrants record their best timings and 28 top contestants in the country will meet at the Nation Final Event. Finalists will undergo an intensive 2 day training programme, where the best 6 will be part of the International Race Camp at Silverstone, UK and meet 18 other contestants from other countries. and put up a fight with their driving skills in Nismo-tuned Nissan 370Zs and GT-Rs. One winner will move on to the Driver Development Programme and learn all the skills necessary to compete in an international ‘graduation race’.
Qualifying rounds in Delhi and Mumbai have seen over 2000 participants (combined). Of the top 15 aspirants thus far, 10 are from Mumbai. There are 3 more qualifying rounds where players can register on the spot too. Dates and locations for the GT Academy Live events are as follows:
· April 17-20, 2014: Inorbit Mall, Hyderabad
· May 15-18, 2014: Mantri Mall, Bengaluru
· June 5-8, 2014: Express Avenue Mall, Royapettah, Chennai
