September 20th is the day that Nissan fans have been waiting for. Nissan India has launched the new Sunny sedan at Mumbai and for long there’s being talk about the car being in a price range between Rs. 7 lakhs to Rs.9 lakhs but Nissan surprised everybody by pricing it at Rs. 5.78 lakhs for the lowest end model XE. The new Nissan Sunny was previously unveiled a month ago. All that angst and estimation can now be put to rest. Nissan Motor Company Corporate Vice President for Africa, Middle East & India, Mr. Gilles Normand graced the launch event, and brings the car to the Indian car market for a price of Rs.
The Nissan Sunny sedan will offer stiff competition to the Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Ford Fiesta, Honda City, Maruti SX4 and Fiat Linea. Sunny will be produced at the company’s production unit in Oragadam in Chennai. It has some interesting internal and external features worthy of mention, though quite similar to Micra. Interiors will be done up in beige with additional space both in passenger and drivers areas. Generous boot space too will ensure luggage has a comfortable fit.
As of now, Sunny will only be a petrol variant as the company will not be offering a diesel version just yet. Considering the latest trend and shift towards diesel run cars, it should not be long before Sunny too is offered with a diesel engine. The 1.5 liter petrol engine will produce 99 bhp with 134 Nm torque.Nissan Sunny has already been launched in countries like China and US. ARAI has placed Sunny 1.5 liter engine in 16.95 kmpl bracket, which is a decent number to go by.
