Nissan has not revealed much about the new Datsun car launch. All they said was that the upcoming model will be priced less than 100 million rupiah ($9,000, €6,900, £5,800, INR 5,94,090) and will be introduced to target first time car buyers in the country. This means that the car in question will be priced above the Go hatchback for India, which will be priced below 4 lakhs once launched next year.
Apart from this, Nissan Motor Indonesia recently appointed PT Mitra Pinasthika Mustika Tbk (MPM) as their dealer partner in Indonesia, as the company prepares to launch the Datsun brand in the country next year. Nissan aims to capture a 8% market share in the global auto industry by 2016 under the Nissan 88 strategy. The launch of Datsun products aligns with their growth plans.
Targeting markets in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa, Datsun GO is the company’s first product to wear the budget vehicle badge. Priced under INR 4 lakhs for its fully loaded variant, the Go resembles the Nissan Micra when it comes to size. 100 kgs lighter than Micra, GO sports a 1.2 liter three cylinder petrol engine which though offering less power, gives better fuel economy, which is a highpoint for attracting buyers of affordable hatchbacks.
