Nissan ZEOD is their electric race car for 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans (Video)


Nissan has unveiled its new all electric super-race-car, dubbed ZEOD. Set to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next year, Nissan ZEOD RC, (which stands for Zero Emission On Demand Race Car), features the same basic technology, as seen on their existing electric car, Leaf, but very advanced.

Nissan ZEOD is their electric race car for 2014 24 Hours of Le Mans (18)The new ZEOD RC will have a DeltaWing style construction and according to Nissan engineers, ZEOD can reach a top speed of over 300 kmph. It is set to compete against some of the fastest gas powered cars at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2014, and according to Nissan’s Ben Bowlby, the car will surprise everyone and change the perception of using electric cars for racing.

No specific technical details of ZEOD RC have been revealed, but Nissan states that the vehicle will use the same lithium battery technology seen in the Leaf electric hatch. Andy Palmer, Executive VP, Nissan says, “Nissan has become a global leader in the development of zero emission automotive technology and the Nissan ZEOD RC will allow us to further develop those capabilities using the toughest endurance race in the world as a mobile test bed to test the potential of our planned LM P1 power train.”
