Nov 2017 Two Wheeler Sales Report- Hero, Honda, Bajaj, TVS, Royal Enfield, Suzuki

Bajaj, Honda, Royal Enfield and Suzuki all posted double digit growth in the past month following lower than expected sales during the festive season in October.

Hero

Hero MotoCorp November 2017 sales were up 26% with the Hero Maestro Edge being a top selling scooter. The company clocked sales to the extent of 6,05,270 units in November 2017 as against 4,79,856 units sold in November 2016. These sales included 5,25,224 units of motorcycles and 80,046 units of scooters during the month. Sales growth was driven by motorcycles such as the Splendor, Passion, HF Deluxe and Glamour and the Maestro, Edge, Duet and Pleasure scooters. Hero MotoCorp also unveiled the Xpulse concept adventure motorcycle at the EICMA Show in Milan, Italy in November. This Hero XPulse adventure bike will be launched in India sometime in mid-2018.

Honda

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) total sales were up 44% in November 2017 with a total of 4,60,017 units sold as against 3,25,480 units sold in November 2016. In domestic markets, HMSI sold 4,32,350 units in November 2017 as compared to 2,99,414 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Motorcycle sales were up 56% at 1,50,606 units last month as compared to 96,338 units sold in November 2016 while scooter sales increased 39% to 2,81,744 units. Exports, however, noted a marginal increase of 6% in November 2017 to 27,667 units as against 26,066 units exported in November 2016.

Bajaj

Bajaj Auto Limited reported a 21% increase in total sales in November 2017. Sales during the past month stood at 3,26,458 units, up from 2,69,948 units sold in November 2016. Motorcycle sales increased by 11% from 2,37,757 units sold in November 2016 to 2,63,970 units sold in the past month. Commercial vehicle sales too received a tremendous boost with 62,488 units sold in November 2017 from 32,191 units sold in the same month of the previous year. Bajaj Auto exports increased 27% to 1,46,623 units from 1,15,425 units sold in November 2016.

TVS

TVS Motor Company sales increased 12% in November 2017. Sales stood at 2,51,965 units during the past month as against 2,24,971 units sold in November 2016. Domestic sales grew 6.08% at 2,03,138 units as against 1,91,499 units sold in November 2016. Scooter sales were up 7.19% and stood at 78,397 units in November 2017 as compared to 73,135 units sold in November 2016. Motorcycle sales also increased 37.27% to 93,202 units in the past month from 67,896 units in the same month of the previous year. Total exports increased 43.80% to 47,207 units in the past month as compared to 32,829 units exported in November 2016. Taking only two wheeler exports into account, TVS Motors exported 40,185 units in November 2017 as compared to 27,589 units exported in November 2016, an increase of 45.66%. It was the TVS Jupiter that was a top selling model for the company.

Royal Enfield

Royal Enfield recorded a 22% increase in sales in November 2017. The company sold 70,126 units in the past month as against 57,313 units in November 2016. In terms of domestic sales, Royal Enfield sold 55,843 units, a 21% increase as compared to sales in the same month of the previous year while exports stood at 2,350 units in November 2017 as compared to 1,470 units exported in November 2016. These notable sales could be due to improvements the company made in the Classic 350 which was its top seller among all models in the company lineup. Royal Enfield also announced the new Interceptor 750 and Continental GT 750 at the EICMA Show early last month, to compete against offerings from both Harley Davidson and Triumph.

Suzuki

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL), subsidiary of two-wheeler manufacturer, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, has reported a 37% growth in November 2017. The company’s domestic sales stood at 42,722 units in the past month as against 30,830 units sold in November 2016. Exports also increased to 6,813 units as compared to 5,268 units exported in November 2016 taking overall sales count to 49,535 units. In November 2017, the company also launched the Suzuki Intruder 150 cruiser which also contributed to sales.
