Parth Ghorpade 9th in Formula Renault 2.0 Alps Race 1

Parth-GhorpadeIndian racer Parth Ghorpade finished 9th at the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps at the opening race held in Vallelunga Italy. Incidentally this was his debut race and he did quite well to move from 11th position to finish in 9th place out of a total 36 cars. Cars in this race are powered by Clio III Renault Sport engine producing 250 bhp, which has a paddle operated 7- speed sequential gearbox and push rod suspension.

The first race started with Parth suffering from a bad start forcing him to take 11th position before he could pace ahead two spots to the 9th. Though his lap times were more or less similar to the leader, he couldn’t capitalize enough due to a closely bunched pack scenario.

Race 2 saw Parth benefiting from one of the best starts that enabled him to move up nine places to settle for the 7th. However, he was forced to retire after a hit from behind forced him onto the gravel patch. In spite of this bad luck, Parth was optimistic about the rest of the races and hoped to do better as the season progressed. After the opening race of the season on 7th April Vallelunga, the 2013 Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS series moves to Imola on the May 12th weekend.

Parth Ghorpade said, “We always knew this was going to be a very competitive series so to qualify 4th in the group in our first qualifying session exceeded all expectations. I had a slow start and lost some positions at the start. After that I started pushing and managed to overtake 2 cars and move up to 9th place. I was quicker than some of the guys ahead of me but could not overtake due to the characteristics of the circuit. In Race 2, I probably had the best start of my racing career and was up to 7th position from 16th and the car felt really good. On lap 2 I suddenly felt a hit from behind and was punted into the gravel.” He added, “Overall I am satisfied with the opening race. You have 25 cars within 1 second of each other so it is easily the most competitive field I have even raced in. We will test again before the race next month. I am looking forward to the rest of the season and confident for the same.”
