Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil gain 12 points for Force India at 2011 Singapore Grand Prix

The 2011 Singapore Grand Prix saw Paul di Resta finish sixth and Adrian Sutil finish eighth to gain a combined 12 points for their team, Force India.  This was an improvement for Resta who had finished eighth at the Italian Grand Prix earlier, making this his best finish till date. It was a matter of celebration seeing both Force India drivers secure points.

Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull racing who began the Maria Bay night race at pole position retained his position, and won.  He was closely followed by Jenson Button of McLaren, and team mate Mark Webber.  Vettel is one point short of making him the youngest ever double world champion in F1 history. Though Resta managed to race on to third place by lap 17, the Scotsman who began at ninth place on the grid was finally overtaken by Webber of Red Bull.  Sutil on the other hand was in eighth place on the grid and managed to reach fifth place in lap 26 when Lewis Hamilton of McLaren overtook him during the 37th lap.

Adrian Sutil may as well have fisnihed the rcae in 7th position but did lose a spot to Nico Rosberg based on a pit stop event. Lap 30 saw an unfortunate crash of Michael Schumacher resulting in him dropping out of the race.  Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil retained their position till the end of the race and were content with their performance. Prior to the Singapore Grand Prix, Force India was leading Sauber by a single point. Having picked up 12 points the team has now extended their lead to 12 points. This will help team Force India secure 6th spot in the Constructors Championship. If the double point finishes had begun a few races earlier, Force India may have inched their way closer to Renault placed fifth.
