Piaggio Vespa launch to be followed up with other two wheelers in India
Few will remember the success story of Vespa when it was launched a few decades ago. Now with its second coming, two wheeler audience and the company are hoping that it will be as victorious. Piaggio, Europe’s largest two wheeler auto maker has announced that they will be relaunching Vespa scooters in India by March 2012. This will be followed by a few more two wheelers such as Piaggio Scooters and Moto Guzzi motorcycles.
Mr. Ravi Chopra, Managing Director of Piaggio Vehicles in India said that the company will delve into the two wheeler markets as to what should be their target during the coming year. Based on this study, the company will be bringing in a few two wheelers into the mass markets in India. The Italian two wheeler company’s global brands include Aprilia, Vespa, Moto Guzzi, Derbi, Piaggio, Gilera and Laverda. Piaggio may enter the 110-250 cc bikes executive and premium segments in the price range between Rs.50,000 to Rs.1,50,000, and will be launching Moto Guzzi in the premium luxury motorcycle segment with immediate attention however being on Vespa. MD Ravi Chopra, Piaggio Vehicles India had this to say. “We are doing a comprehensive and exhaustive research in India as to what could be the product line for the next few years.” “We will be clear about what should be the road map for Piaggio in India in the next few months.” “We have to get into mass market scooter segment that is the large chunk of the market. If we don’t exploit at the right time, then I think we will miss out on the opportunity.” “After an intensive research, we are more than convinced that there are enough people who would like to have a lifestyle product, who would like to be part of the exclusive club.”
