Porsche expands Saxony facility with on-site body assembly and paint shop for Macan production


Porsche today celebrated the roofing ceremony of the Paint shop which has been commissioned at the Leipzig plant. After almost a year now, the roofing ceremony of the world’s most modern paint shop facility has been initiated. This facility is over 60,000 sq meters large and is one of the largest construction projects that have been taken up by Porsche.

Using new styles in engineering technology, the plant will serve as a stimulus for growth of this brand. 113,000 tons of concrete along with steel beams were used to construct the shell of the facility which is 360 meters long, 30 meters high and 72 meters wide. Resulting design of the facility blends in seamlessly with surrounding Leipzig factory scenario.

This facility is been constructed in record time to help facilitate manufacture of Macan cars which will be subjected to thorough body assembling and paint jobs within the new facility. Using an innovative chemical exhaust air cleaning system new paint separation system will be installed. A biomass power plant will be used to produce 80% of the heat required by manufacturing processes.
