Two new teasers of Proton Iriz Compact Car have been revealed which show the engine bay and leather upholstery of the seats. The engine bay teaser indicates an engine with Variable Valve Timing (VVT). The new Proton if it comes in with VVT will partner turbocharged Campro CFE which also has VVT though on the intake sides only. Proton Iriz will also sport new engine cover, leather seats and a 3D leather wrapped instrument panel.
Abounding in safety features, the new Proton Ibiz has passed the ASEAN-NCAP crash test with a 5 Star rating. It will sport 6 airbags- front, side and curtain, ABS, EBD, TCS and Brake Assist, besides projector headlights while headlamp appears to incorporate both projector and reflector. Other safety features will include keyless entry, engine starter button and touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth and navigation along with reverse parking camera. Post Malaysian launch, Proton have plans to launch the car in Europe.
The five seater Proton Iriz Compact Car comes in with three headrests at the rear while rear bench appears to have a 60:40 split. Gear lever in usual position close to dashboard, hand brake lever and two cup holders were also evident while another cup holder is behind hand brake for the convenience of rear passengers. 4 icons – Navigation, Radio, Media and Bluetooth are also seen on the cars touch screen head unit indicating integrated navigation maps.
Engine specifications will possibly include a 1.3 and 1.6 liter VVT engine with both manual and automatic gearbox options on offer. The upcoming model will be produced at Proton Tanjung Malim Plant spread over an area of 1,280 acres which is a part of the 4,000 acre Proton City Project.
