As we reported earlier, Renault India is working on products that would cater to the sub-4m, under 7 lakh segment. Economic time reports that a compact MPV, a mini SUV and a sedan are in the works to be launched in the next 3 years.
The new products are reported to be based on an evolution of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF-A platform which is called as CMF-A+. The Renault CMF-A+ is engineered to underpin wider and larger vehicles with more powerful engines. The Renault HBC (codename) mini SUV which would be based on this architecture will be pitted against the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport.
The company is also reported to be developing a 7-seat family MPV (codenamed RBC) to rival the market leader Maruti Ertiga. Not much about the people carrier is known as of now but ET’s sources in the auto component industry say that the design of the MPV has more or less been finalized.
Not surprisingly, the French automaker is also working on a sub-4m compact sedan (codenamed LBC) to take on the Maruti Dzire. All these vehicles are expected to have a common powertrain lineup. Like the Kwid, the cost targets for the new Renault models are stringent so expect them to enter their respective markets with the lowest base prices.
Renault has managed to chip off a sizeable 8% market share away from Maruti and Hyundai in the budget small car segment with its Kwid. The automaker would be trying to create a similar impact with the upcoming products as well.
