Renault Duster compact SUV gained popularity very soon after it was introduced and turning many people towards choosing it over big SUVs or even sedans in the price range. Touted as city car with SUV capabilities, Duster was mostly preferred for its size, space and style. Now, Renault is going to launch All Wheel Drive variant (4×4) in India (already available in international markets), making it all the more off-road capable. Power will be derived from same Renault K9K dCi 1.5 litre diesel engine seen in Front Wheel Drive variant, with output of 110 PS max. and 248 Nm peak torque, paired with 6 speed manual transmission. Duster AWD will get three drive modes – 2WD, Auto and 4WD Lock. 4WD lock mode works upto 60 kmph then automatically shifts to Auto Mode. Mileage of Renault Duster AWD is claimed to be 19.72 kmpl.
Interiors of soon-to-launch off-road friendly trim of Duster compact SUV will be turned by much sportier steering wheel, and vehicle stats will be shown via three pod instrument cluster. While centre console will be same as the unit seen in Renault Duster Adventure Edition, seats will be covered in red and grey theme.
Exteriors of Duster 4×4 are not very distinct from 4×2 version, except for smoked headlamps and gun metal finished alloy wheels and AWD decals. Ground clearance of Duster AWD is upped by 5mm from FWD variant to 210 mm. Duster 4×4 will make rivals out of Tata Safari Storme 4×4 and Mahindra Scorpio 4X4, with price of around Rs. 10 to Rs. 12.50 lakhs.
