Since July 2012, Duster crossover has been sold in front wheel drive configuration only. Within a few months after its launch, Renault ended up tripling production in Oragadam plant near Chennai, from 7 cars per hour to 20, to meet the demand for Duster. The compact SUV got hold of 23 percent market share in first year. We are yet to see if 4×4 variant will be received with similar enthusiasm.
Petrol variant of Renault Duster 4×4 is offered in markets like Russia, but Indian customers will be given the option of diesel only. This is due to slow demand in petrol variants in the segment. 1.5 litre Renault K9K turbocharged diesel engine in Duster 4×4 will produce 110 PS max. power and 248 Nm peak torque. 4WD is will be available in RxZ variant only.
Features in new Duster trim will include ABS (Antilock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), dual Airbags (driver & shotgun), alloy wheels, In-Car Entertainment (ICE) system and electrically adjustable Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVM). More on Duster 4×4 here.
