350 units if India made Renault Duster SUVs are on their way to the markets of UK and Ireland from the company’s Chennai based factory. At an event organized to flag off these made in India Renault Duster SUV, Renault revealed that the Duster was a global success.
India will be the main export hub while the company will be producing these right hand drive Duster’s for the UK and Ireland from their company plant in Oragadam, Chennai. The Duster which are being exported, carry Dacia badge, as Renault operates in these markets under Dacia.
Renault Dusters were first introduced in India in July 2012 and since then the company has sold over 19,000 units, which has prompted them to focus on export operations from India itself while also concentrating on meeting rising domestic demand.
India made Renault Duster for the UK market, is a right hand drive SUV powered by a 1.5 liter dCi engine and a 1.6 liter petrol engine. The Duster is being exported to the UK and Ireland in 4×2 and 4×4 versions and has been subjected to various modifications so as to meet stringent standards in overseas markets.
India holds much promise for Renault. The country is soon to emerge as one of the top ten markets for the company. Renault India is represented through its 75 dealerships which the company has initiated in 18 months while they have plans to increase this number to 100 by end of this year.
Marc Nassif, MD, Renault India said, “We will continue to focus on meeting domestic demand in India, while also exploring new opportunities in exports and in making India the global hub for right-hand drive vehicles.”
