The Renault Duster which has met with enormous success ever since it was launched earlier this year, now makes its way to the Dakar Rally with a newly designed engine especially for this famous off road motor racing sport where a host of SUVs will be converging to tackle the most demanding of desert terrains.
Renault SA has revealed two special Duster compact SUV which will be contending for pole position at these events which commences from January 5th to 15th 2013. The competition will see participants traverse across 8,000 kms of South American countries of Lima, Peru, Argentina and Santiago.
The upgraded Duster SUVs will be in the hands of pilot and navigator Emiliano Spatano and Benjamin Losada, both Argentines. Suspension has been reinforced and is larger than the original model while ramp angles and other structures have been strengthened to not only protect the occupants but also to be highly functional of severe off roading conditions. The new Duster will possess a 3.5 liter V6 petrol engine with 45 lb/ft torque and peak output of nearly 300 bhp which will be mated to a 6 speed sequential exchange.
