Renault India gets new MD – Venkatram Mamillapalle

Renault SAS France has announced leadership change in India wef March 1,2019. Following the directive, Mr. Venkatram Mamillapalle will takeover as Managing Director for Renault India Private Limited, and Head of Renault Operations in India.

Fabrice Cambolive, Senior Vice-President, Chairman, Africa-Middle-East-India Region, said, “Over the last six years, Sumit has been instrumental in laying a strong foundation for establishing and growing the Renault brand in India. Under his leadership, Renault has become the number one European brand in this highly competitive and dynamic automotive market with two strong pillar models Duster and Kwid.

Sumit has ensured that the India team, together with all our partners, work towards a single focus of achieving the important ambitions laid out for the Indian market and has also worked towards ensuring the future line up for the country. Sumit will continue to be the member of Africa-Middle East India Region executive committee and his new position will be announced soon.”

With Sawhney at the helm, Renault India emerged an automaker that’s introduced two successful vehicles in India. First came the Duster, and more recently Renault Kwid. Sales pattern for both vehicles saw the offerings post strong sales for the first few years before sales dwindled. The launch of Renault Kwid came at a good time as Duster sales has fallen. Sumit Sawhney continues in his role as member of Africa-Middle East India Region executive committee. His new position will soon be announced.

Venkatram Mamillapalle

New boss, Venkatram Mamillapalle until recently worked as Head of Renault-Nissan-Avtovaz Purchasing Organisation in Russia. His vast work experience in the automotive industry includes stints at Tata Motors as Senior Vp, Head of Purchasing & Supply Chain), General Motors Korea (VP Purchasing and Supply Chain), Eicher Tractors, and others. In his new role, he will report to Fabrice Cambolive – Chairman, AMI Region for Groupe Renault.

Mr. Cambolive added, “India is an important market for Groupe Renault’s future growth plans. I am confident that Venkatram will build on the momentum and will further drive the growth and performance of our operations in India.”
