The Kwid will play a crucial part in Renault India’s growth this year.

The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre variant which was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 is slated to be launched by June 2016, reports NDTV. However, the Easy-R AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) option is likely to be introduced only by Diwali.

Renault’s most affordable car in the world was designed and developed in India. Based on the cost effective CMF-A modular platform, the Kwid is currently powered by a 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission to deliver 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque.

The 1.0 litre Kwid is expected to dish out around 65-70 PS.

Renault India hasn’t divulged any specific details of the new 1.0-litre unit yet. It is expected to produce around 65-70 PS of power. Standard transmission option will be a 5-speed manual while the Easy-R AMT will join the lineup as an option.

The Renault Kwid 1.0-litre has no telling visual differences compared to the 800 cc variants but one can expect more equipment on board such as dual airbags and ABS (current lineup offers only drive airbag in the range-topping variant).
