Renault Kwid 1.0 litre petrol AMT variant in the works
Renault Kwid micro SUV which is vying to steel the price sensitive A-segment hatchback market has received positive response from the audience. With launch slated for this festive season, the most affordable Renault car will be offered with a homegrown 800 cc three-cylinder petrol motor.
Autocar India reports that, the French automaker will be introducing new variants of Kwid on a regular basis to maintain its novelty in the market. Once such new variant which is due for a later state (6-8 months from the launch) is a more powerful model with a 1.0-litre petrol engine.
It’s reported that Renault Nissan is currently working on the development of the larger motor in question but further details are scarce as of now. We suspect the new motor to be a three-cylinder unit which would be used in upcoming products from Datsun and Nissan brands as well.
The more powerful petrol motor is also expected to come with an AMT option, which would put the micro crossover in a duel with popular Maruti Alto K10. Kwid AMT will rely on its SUV-ish stance, modern interiors and an attractive price tag to trounce its rival.
