With Renault Kwid being well received in India and having found position on list of Top 10 cars in India in April 2016, new variants are in the offing.

The new Renault Kwid variant with a 1L SCe engine and Renault Kwid AMT (which is also powered by the 1L SCe engine) are poised for launch in India.

Both these variants made their presence felt at the 2016 Auto Expo and now Renault India MD & CEO, Mr Sumit Sawhney has confirmed that at least one of these variants will be launched before the month of June 2016 ends.

Renault Kwid AMT comes in to compete with Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 with AMT which is the only model with AMT in this segment. Spied on test in a number of locations across the country, it will sport a 1.0 liter three cylinder SCe engine based on the 0.8 liter engine currently powering the current Kwid.

The 0.8 liter engine offers 54 PS power and 72 Nm torque while power output on the Kwid 1 liter is expected to touch 65 to 70 PS range. The engine is expected to deliver mileage in the range of 22-25 kmpl, via either AMT or 5-speed MT

Renault Kwid 1 liter and Renault Kwid AMT are expected to get ABS, EBD, dual front airbags, front power windows, touchscreen Media NAV besides a digital instrument cluster. Renault Kwid AMT will get “Easy-R” badging on the outside and inside. This is what Renault is calling their AMT tech.

Single handedly it has managed to bring down sales of India’s best selling car – Maruti Alto. Kwid sales in April 2016 touched 9,795 units, positioned at No. 6 on the list of top 10 best selling cars during the month.
