The current Renault Kwid 800cc has been a huge success in India, garnering over 90,000 bookings since launch back in September 2015. Renault India is now preparing to launch a more powerful variant of the Kwid, with a 1.0-liter engine and AMT gearbox, the same which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The new 1.0 liter petrol engine on board the new Kwid is expected to generate power in the range of 70-75 PS. ABS and driver airbag will be available as standard on board the Kwid 1.0 liter. Along with five-speed manual gearbox, it will also be offered with 5 speed AMT, which in Renault-speak is the Easy-R AMT tech.
The AMT gearbox onboard the new Kwid 1.0 liter can be operated via a circular knob, which is located on the centre console. It features R, N and D positions, for Reverse, Neutral and Drive modes, as seen in the image below. It also gets a creep function, which makes driving through traffic jams much less hectic.
Renault Kwid 1 liter is expected to have a price tag in the range of INR 3 – 4 lakh. It will continue to be offered in four variants – Standard, RxE, RxL and RxT as is seen on its 800cc counterpart. A source close to the development, has confirmed to Rushlane that launch of new Kwid 1 liter is to take place in the month of June / July 2016.
Renault Kwid comes with several segment first features like a 300 liter boot space, 180mm ground clearance and a 4.1” touchscreen infotainment system. High level of localization has allowed Renault India to keep the price of Kwid competitve and take on rivals like Maruti and Hyundai.
