The new Renault MPV is codenamed RBC as on date. It has been spied on test in Tamil Nadu, close to where Renault Nissan Alliance has its plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.
Though under extreme camouflage, certain design elements have come into focus. This sub 4 meter MPV will be positioned on the Kwid platform. Much larger than the Kwid, the RBC is slated to offer seating for upto 7 persons in a three row layout. It will be positioned below the Lodgy and is set to be a low cost model in the sub INR 6 lakh price bracket.
Renault RBC will launch sometime in 2019. It will be larger than the Kwid with a longer wheelbase but still in the sub 4 meter category so as to take advantage of excise duty benefits offered by the Government of India.
In terms of design, the Renault MPV will sport a large front grille, distinctive headlamps, LED daytime running lights, a massive bumper and chunkier tyres.
Speaking about its interiors, one could expect it to be spacious and comfortable. Also on offer will be a touchscreen infotainment system with safety features to include dual airbags, ABS and parking sensors which will be as per norms that will come into effect from October 2019.
Being positioned on a CMF-A+ platform means that Renault will be offering the MPV exclusively with a petrol engine. It could get its power via a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder petrol engine seen powering the Renault Kwid 1.0 though with higher power and torque figures. Transmission options would include a manual gearbox and an AMT as well.
