For the month of January 2016, Renault India has reported sales of 8,031 units. This when compared with sales registered by the company in Jan 2015, of 3,203 units, is an increase of a staggering 151%. This growth is all credit to the newly launched Renault Kwid, which has changed Renault India’s fate upside-down in the auto industry.
Renault Kwid was launched in India back in September 2015. Registering average sales in the range of 5,000 to 6,000 units a month, Renault Kwid bookings have already soared to 90,000 units in this short period of time. Sadly, there is only that many units of Kwid Renault India can manufacture every month, which has resulted in a waiting period of up to 12 months in some case.
Renault India is trying everything possible in order to reduce this waiting period. The company recently announced an increase in production capacity, which will help bring respite up to some extent.
Priced from INR 2.56 lakh to INR 3.53 lakh, Renault Kwid is offered with a new 800 cc petrol engine which is rated at 54 PS and 72 Nm. Offered 5-speed manual transmission, it is the exterior design and sporty interiors of Renault Kwid which has made it an overnight success in the country.
At the upcoming Auto Expo, Renault India has promised to reveal new variants of Kwid. We expect a 1 liter variant with manual transmission and an 800 cc variant with AMT gearbox to be unveiled.
