Renault Kwid bookings open, launch next month

The bookings for the new Renault Kwid hatchback have opened at a down payment of Rs 25,000 at select dealerships. To be priced in the range of Rs 3-4 lakhs, Kwid is the most affordable hatchback ever to be produced by Renault.

The new Kwid will be produced from Renault-Nissan manufacturing unit in Chennai. The company claims to have achieved 98% localisation which is the main reason why the Kwid hatchback will be priced so aggressively.

Apart from this, Renault has also hired Ranbir Kapoor as their brand ambassador and released a new TVC with a background track from Oscar winning music composer, A R Rehman. This TVC has already clocked 11.50 lakh views in 10 days.

Speaking about the new Kwid, it is based on Renault-Nissan CMF-A platform, also seen on the Datsun redi-Go hatchback. Renault Kwid hatchback will be powered by a 0.8 liter, 3 cylinder petrol engine offering an estimated 57 bhp peak power and 100 Nm peak torque while mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The Kwid can accelerate from 0-100 kmph mark in 20 seconds with top speed of about 100- 120 kmph. A more powerful variant powered by a 1.0 liter petrol engine is expected to be launched sometime in 2016.

Renault Kwid hatchback measures 3,680mm in length and 1,580mm in width, and has best-in-class ground clearance at 180mm. It will sport dual slat grille, swept back headlamps and plastic cladding on sides. It receives manual ORVMs and body colored tailgate spoiler while it sits on 13” and 14” wheels. Interiors will receive front power windows, chrome air vents and optional driver airbag. Top end variants will sport a 7” color touchscreen MediaNav system with Bluetooth besides AUX and USB connectivity.

The launch of Renault Kwid hatchback is a part of the company’s plan to ensure rapid growth in the Indian market. Renault has opened 157 dealerships across the country and is planning 280 outlets in India by 2016.
