Renault India, that sells the Kwid hatchback, Fluence sedan, Koleos luxury SUV, Pulse, Duster SUV, Scala and Lodgy MPV in India has noted sales to the extent of 10,292 units in December 2015.
Sales increased 160% as compared to 3,959 units sold in December 2014. November 2015 sales were also equally noteworthy with 7,819 units sold, up 144% as compared to 3,201 units sold in November 2014. The period January to December 2015 has seen total sales of Renault India at 53,847 units as against 44,849 units sold in the same period of the previous year resulting in a growth of 20.1%.
These increased sales were despite the fact that the company plant in Oragadam in the outskirts of Chennai had to contend with floods following heavy rainfall causing disruption in production. Renault-Nissan Oragadam plant has the capacity to product 4,80,000 units per annum. The company has noted that the rise in sales was primarily driven by sales of the Kwid which was launched on the 24th September 2015. Though exact numbers of Kwids sold were not revealed, estimates put sales at around 20,000 units by the end of December.
Over the past year, Renault India has stepped up efforts towards product development and increase of sales and service networks across the country. Sales and service facilities have grown from 14 in 2011 to 200 as on date while efforts are being made to increase this count to 240 sales and service facilities by the end of 2016.
