Launched in India last year, Renault Kwid has now become the fifth best-selling car in the country. Since its launch, Renault has registered over 1.5 lakh bookings of the Kwid, while monthly sales average at about 8,000 units.
With sales in India growing steadily, Renault has started exporting the Kwid to other markets around the world. Recently, India-made Renault Kwid was launched in Kenya, where it is on sale for an introductory price of 1,234,567 Kenyan Shillings (INR 8.16 lakh), including VAT.
Renault Kwid in Kenya is same as the one on sale in India. It is powered by 800cc petrol engine offering 57 bhp peak power. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, mileage claimed stands at 25.17 kmpl. Based on CMF-A Platform, Renault Kwid hatchback receives a Duster inspired front, which has led many refer the Kwid as Baby Duster.
Speaking about the new launch, Renault Kenya Brand Manager, Jonathan Dos Santos said that Kwid has unmatched features and price tag, as compared to similar models in the market currently. Kwid receives features like Renault MediaNAV, FM Radio, Sat-Nav Bluetooth and a 7” touchscreen interface.
“This is a perfect car that symbolizes dynamic performance, robust strength and a taste of adventure. Its SUV-inspired stance offers a high driving position and greater visibility. Whizzing around city traffic or zooming down the highway, Renault KWID is the ideal car for you”, said Dos Santos.
Renault started operations in Kenya back in 2014. They have invested USD 1.7 million till date in the country. All Renault cars sold in Kenya are CBU. Until now, only 117 units have been sold by Renault in Kenya. This number is expected to grow exponentially in the coming days with Kwid now on sale.
