Keeping its promise, Renault India has launched the Kwid budget hatchback at an attractive introductory starting price of INR 2,56,968, ex-showroom, Delhi (variant wise features are given below). With its latest product, the French automaker is vying to dethrone the long standing small car champion Maruti Alto.
The competitive pricing was made possible by developing the car primarily in India and achieving a local content of 98%. In fact, the Renault Kwid is the most localized car in India. Renault claims that the car will be 19% cheaper to maintain compared to its nearest competitor.
To be made at Renault-Nissan Alliance’s huge Oragadam manufacturing plant, the Kwid is based on a global A-segment modular platform (CMF-A) which has the ability to adopt different top-hats such as an SUV, MPV, sedan and a bigger hatchback.
Exterior Design
The Renault Kwid introduces a fresh design approach to a segment which has been churning out dull econoboxes. The striking SUV-like design, helped by generous proportions has nothing to suggest that vehicle was built to cost (save for the tacky looking wing mirrors and lift-up type door handles).
Colin Macdonald, MD, Renault-Nissan Alliance India, launched the new Kwid today.
The baby Duster features a squarish nose with prominent grille and headlamps. The car’s 180 mm ground clearance and muscular sheet metal design make it look larger in profile than it actually is. The design is rounded off by a neatly executed rear fascia with simple combination lamps and a black bumper. Top-end variant receives body color front bumper, passenger side wing mirror, hubcaps and foglights.

Interior Design
The uncluttered dashboard scores high on design and functionality. The Kwid gets first-in-segment fully digital instrument console and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system housed within a piano black centre console. The chunky three spoke steering wheel and twin glove boxes are the other highlights.
The uncluttered dashboard helps the sense of space.
Being a large small car help’s the Kwid when it comes to cabin space, both upfront and at the rear. Depending on the variants, seats with integrated headrests are available in different colors.
