The Renault Kwid has completed its first full months sales this October with an impressive tally of 5,195 units. While it’s just a fraction of Maruti Alto’s 22,861 units, it’s pretty close to Hyundai Eon’s 6,479 units last month. It’s to be noted that Renault India is in the process of ramping up the Kwid’s production rate.
The all-new budget hatchback has garnered over 50,000 bookings since its launch in late September and has a waiting period of around 6 months. The company has assured that the production rate will be increased in the coming months to meet the surging demand. So it’s safe to assume that the Kwid would overtake the Eon, moving forward.
The SUV-like styling, a mouth watering price tag, an uncluttered and modern interior design, best-in-class space and features, and a high fuel efficiency (25.17 kmpl) are the Kwid’s strong selling points. Based on the new lightweight CMF-A platform, the Kwid is powered by a 0.8-litre three-cylinder petrol engine which is tuned to deliver 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque. The motor is mated only to a 5-speed manual transmission but an AMT could be introduced in the foreseeable feature.
