The Renault Kwid specs have apparently been leaked ahead of the micro crossover’s launch which is slated for this festive season. The A-segment car which is vying to trounce the Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon will rely on its SUVish looks and best-in-class features to make headway.
The car is reported to measure 3.68 m in length and 1.58 m in width with an ample ground clearance of 180 mm. At 300 litres, the Kwid offers the largest boot in its segment by far.
Powering the baby Duster is a new 800 cc three-cylinder petrol engine which was developed in India. The motor is said to develop 57 hp and 74 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission drives the front wheels but an AMT could also be in the offing. The new motor is expected to deliver best-in-class fuel efficiency in the vicinity of 25 kmpl.
The budget car features a fully digital instrument console and a touchscreen infotainment system.
The Kwid is the first product to be based on CMF-A low-cost platform and was developed at Renault-Nissan Technology Business Centre India (RNTBCI) near Chennai. Low cost of development combined with heavy localization of 98% would lead to an attractive price range of INR 3-4 lakhs (ex-showroom).
