When asked what he feels about the response the Renault Kwid has received in India, Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Renault-Nissan Alliance, has stated that he was delighted at the product’s strong start. He also added that he wants his Indian team to transform the initial response into market share.
Speaking to Economic Times on the sidelines of Tokyo Motor Show, the popular head honcho stated that India is a auto market with highest growth of 7-8% in the year of 2015 and hence Renault’s Indian subsidiary has a high potential in the future.
Ghosn acknowledged that India is a complicated market and needs understanding. In order to understand the market, an automaker needs to have a presence here and adopt a trial and error approach. He says that the Renault Kwid is a positive result of the trial and error method.
According to the CEO, the idiosyncrasy of the Indian market is that, 70% of it is controlled by just two automakers. Such a scenario presents huge opportunities for small players like Renault and Nissan. He added that, irrespective of the market, crossover is the name of the game moving forward.
