Renault India has extensive plans during the current year with a two-fold increase in sales during 2016. The company which sold 54,000 cars 2015 now targets sales of over 1 lakh units in 2016. And this is not where they stagnate. In 2017, Renault India aims to sell 1.80 lakh cars in the domestic market.
Renault India owes much of its success to the new Kwid. This new small car registered sales of 10,292 units in December 2015 and 8,031 units in January 2016. Soon, Renault will add a more powerful 1.0 liter variant of the Kwid to its line-up which will result in even higher sales. Renault sees India as among its top 5 markets in the world.
Apart from the new Kwid, Renault has also lined-up launch of Duster facelift for 2016. Apart from updated exterior design and new features on the inside, 2016 Duster also gets a new gearbox option in addition to the existing 5MT and 6MT, and this is in the form of AMT. Both, new Renault Kwid 1 liter and Duster AMT were showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this month.
Renault India confirms that the Kwid now commands over 75% of its total volume followed by the Duster SUV which accounted for 17% sales during the past month. Renault also sells the Fluence, Pulse, Lodgy, Scala and Koleos in India. Along with new launches, expansion of dealerships to over 240 dealers by the end of 2016 is also on the cards.
Focusing on exports is also important, reveals Renault India. The company will soon commence exports of KWID to SAARC nations of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh. After that, exports to Brazil and other Latin American markets will commence.
