Soon-to-be-launched Renault Kwid A-segment micro crossover has been caught on tape while testing on highway without any camouflage. The video gives us a fair idea of the vehicle’s stance under real world conditions.
Despite being a budget product which is vying to take on the likes of Maruti Alto and Hyundai Eon, Kwid manages to score high on road presence, thanks to its crossover like styling. The baby Duster’s tall nature and high belt lines are sure to bode well with SUV loving Indian customers.
To be priced around INR 3-4 lakhs (ex-showroom), Kwid was developed in India at Renault Nissan Technology Business Center India (RNTBCI) located near Chennai and has a local content of 97%. This makes it the most heavily localized car in the country. It is the first product to be based on the company’s CMF-A architecture which will also underpin Datsun redi-Go.

Powering the micro crossover is a three-cylinder 800 cc petrol motor which was also developed in India. The motor would be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Power and torque outputs will be revealed closer to the launch.
Certain reports speculate that a more powerful 1.0-litre petrol engine with an AMT is under work for launch at a latter stage. Such a variant will compete with Alto K10.
