25 Feb 2015 UPDATE : It has now been confirmed that Renault India will launch Lodgy MPV in two trims – 85 PS and 110 PS. This makes the 110 PS variant most powerful in the segment, once launched. India launch of Renault Lodgy is scheduled for April 2014.
7 Jan 2015 : Renault Lodgy MPV is set to launch by March 2015, to compete with Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio in domestic MPV market.
There is another avenue as well where Renault Lodgy has the potential to shine, even if the company doesn’t target it, commercial sector. In the business of moving people, the current competition includes Toyota Innova, Nissan Evalia, Chevrolet Enjoy, Ashok Leyland Stile, Mahindra Xylo and the like. When Renault Lodgy launches, the MPV could be preferred over the others by many, if it is priced highly competitive (as expected), on par with Maruti Ertiga.
The price would only encourage fleet owners to turn to Renault Lodgy, but what will sell the MPV to them is the acclaimed 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine. Mahindra-Renault Logan built a good reputation of K9K engine for easy-on-the-pocket maintenance, consistent mileage and appreciable city drivability, which could convince cab operators to try out the Lodgy.
Given that MPVs are usually preferred with diesel engines, and counting the stated theory of Renault Lodgy‘s capability to suit fleet operators’ requirements, the French manufacturer may not even launch petrol version of the MPV.
