It is pretty well known that entry- or low-end variants of a good number of cars available in showrooms across India will never be sold, claiming that they have absolutely no demand. Bottom line trims increasingly seem to be assigned to create an impression of affordability around the brand.
Word around suggests only Renault Lodgy top end variant will be launched next month (April, 2015) and other models will follow later. It is possible that Renault India intends to position Lodgy as a premium MPV, strictly as a family car, unlike its chief rival-to-be Toyota Innova which has seen success in private as well as commercial segments.
It is apparent that Renault Lodgy does not want to compete in the same space as Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio, and would try to sill the gap between those and Toyota Innova.
Powered only by a diesel engine, the acclaimed 1.5 litre K9K unit, Lodgy will eventually be made available in two states of tune (85 PS and 110 PS), that is if the word that ‘only top end variant will be launched first’ turns out to be true. Apart from engine choices, number of seats can also be chosen, either 7 or 8.
