Today, a new MPV was launched in the Indian auto industry. Offered only in diesel engine option, and priced from Rs 8.19 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi; lets find out how the Renault Lodgy looks on paper when compared with top rivals – Toyota Innova, Honda Mobilio, and Maruti Ertiga
Dimensions: Of the four, the longest, widest and tallest is Toyota Innova at 4585 mm, 1765 mm and 1760 mm. The second is Renault Lodgy at 4498 mm long, 1751 mm wide, and 1696 mm tall. Between Honda Mobilio and Maruti Ertiga, the former is longer, but the latter is taller and wider. Speaking about wheelbase, Lodgy has the longest at 2810 mm, this translates into best in class third row knee room and head room.
All four cars are available in three row 2+3+3 setting. Only Toyota Innova and Renault Lodgy are offered with captain seats for second row. Speaking about comfort, the captain seats of Innova offer more comfort.
Engine and Performance: Powered by 1.5l diesel engine, Renault Lodgy is offered in a choice of two power tunes – 85 PS and 110 PS. This means, the 85 PS variant is the least powerful in this comparo, while the 110 PS variant is the most powerful. Renault claims that Lodgy not only offers the most powerful engine, but also offers best in class top speed, acceleration and braking performance (170 kmph, 0-100 kmph in 12 seconds, 80-0 kmph in 35.26 metre).
Mileage: Renault Lodgy 85 PS claims to deliver mileage of 21.04 kmpl, while the 110 PS variant delivers 19.98 kmpl. Toyota Innova fuel efficiency is claimed at 12.99 kmpl, while that of Ertiga and Honda Mobilio stand at 20.77 kmpl and 24.2 kmpl. Honda Mobilio is the clear winner in this segment.
Price: Renault India has priced the Lodgy very aggressively. Offered in seven trims, price of Lodgy varies from Rs 8.19 lakhs to Rs 11.79 lakhs. Though it is not the least priced of the four (that honour goes to Maruti Ertiga), it is priced exactly in the same range as Honda Mobilio.
Verdict: Taking into account drive quality, equipment and features on offer, price & fuel efficiency; Renault India clearly has a winner at their disposal.
