Renault new car projects planned for Indian auto market: 2012 Duster SUV launch (Photos)
Renault is getting ready to launch a number of new models in the country. The small entry car feasibility study is on and if results are favorable there will be a small car priced at around Rs.3 lakhs. This can be a major growth driver for the company in a country where price is still a key factor while purchasing new vehicles. For starters, Renault has looked at the Logan, Sandero and Duster as entry level cars in varied auto markets.
Renault Duster was recently caught on test in India. Like its Logan (which is now a Mahindra and Mahindra vehicle), and Fluence vehicles, this too will be an economy class vehicle. The vehicle was seen at the New Delhi Auto Show in January 2012. Renault is also keen on making India the export hub for the new Duster SUV.
Where Duster styling is concerned, the vehicle will look very similar to now defunct Hyundai Tucson while it is priced lower. It will have a chrome finished front grille and striking looking headlamps. A bumper with integrated fog lamps and an air dam is seen strategically placed inside the skid plate. The Duster has well pronounced wheel arches which adds to it rugged and sporty appearance.
The vehicle will be powered by a 1.5 liter dCi diesel engine and a 1.6 liter petrol engine with output of 105 bhp while torque will be in the range of 240 Nm and 148 Nm respectively for the diesel and petrol engines. Pricing will commence from Rs.7 lakhs and will work its way up to Rs.9 lakhs while anytime now is when one can expect to see this new Duster SUV in company showrooms.
